Privacy, without the mystery.

This policy explains what information Neighbourhood handles, why we need it and the choices available to you.

1. About this policy

This Privacy Policy applies to the Neighbourhood mobile application, website and related services (“Neighbourhood”, “we”, “us” or “our”). By using Neighbourhood, you acknowledge the practices described below.

2. Information we collect

Account information

When you create or manage an account, we may collect your name, display name, email address, profile information and authentication details. Passwords are handled through secure authentication systems and are not visible to us in plain text.

Neighbourhood and location information

We may collect the address, neighbourhood, approximate location or other area information you provide or permit so we can connect you with the relevant local community. Your device settings control whether Neighbourhood can access location services.

Content and communications

We collect content you submit, including messages, posts, replies, profile content, community updates, reports and SOS alerts. Content you share with a neighbourhood may be visible to other members of that neighbourhood.

Notifications and device information

We may collect a push notification token, device type, operating system, app version, IP address and diagnostic or log information needed to deliver notifications, keep the service secure and troubleshoot problems.

Support communications

If you contact us, we collect the information in your message and any details you choose to provide so we can respond.

3. How we use information

We use information to:

  • create, authenticate and manage accounts;
  • connect users with their selected neighbourhood;
  • deliver chats, local updates, SOS alerts and notifications;
  • moderate content, respond to reports and support community safety;
  • provide support and communicate about the service;
  • detect abuse, fraud, security incidents and technical problems; and
  • maintain and improve Neighbourhood.

4. When information is shared

We may share information in the following circumstances:

  • With other users: information and content you post to your neighbourhood is shared with the users who can access that community.
  • With service providers: trusted providers may process information for hosting, authentication, database services, notifications, email delivery, security and technical support. These may include Google Firebase and Apple Push Notification service.
  • For safety and legal reasons: we may disclose information where reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights and safety, investigate misuse or respond to a valid legal request.
  • Business changes: information may be transferred as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganisation or sale of the service, subject to appropriate safeguards.

We do not sell your personal information.

5. SOS alerts

An SOS alert may share information you submit, your identity and relevant neighbourhood or location information with nearby users. Use this feature carefully and only share information you are comfortable making visible to the intended community.

Neighbourhood does not monitor alerts continuously and does not contact emergency services for you. If there is immediate danger, call 000 in Australia or your local emergency number.

6. Data retention

We keep information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Neighbourhood, meet legal and security obligations, resolve disputes and enforce our terms. Retention periods vary depending on the type of information and why it is held. Some records may remain in secure backups for a limited period after deletion.

7. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect information. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your choices and rights

You can update certain profile information and control location and notification permissions through the app or your device settings. You may also request access to, correction of or deletion of your personal information by emailing neighbourhood@nitratehub.xyz.

We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. Some information may be retained where required or permitted by law, including for security, fraud prevention and legal compliance.

9. International processing

Our service providers may process information in Australia and other countries. Privacy laws in those countries may differ from the laws where you live. Where required, we take reasonable steps to protect information transferred internationally.

10. Children’s privacy

Neighbourhood is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our service or legal obligations change. We will post the revised policy here and update the date at the top. Where appropriate, we may also notify you in the app.
